Inactivity of Law-Enforcement Bodies Is Being Appealed

Artak Zeynalyan claims that the SIS did not do anything to reveal the death circumstances of those 9 victims.

On September 25, 2009 the trial of Gegham Grigoryan and Andranik Manukyan, policemen of the Police Department of Yerevan started. They are accused of Article 309, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Abuse of Power). They abused two citizens who were near the Market of Mashtots Avenue on March 1, 2008. The judge to the case is G. Avetisyan, the prosecutor is A. Nadoyan.

He is accused of Article 316, part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The defense attorney to the case is G. Khachatryan, the judge to the case is G. Avetisyan, the prosecution party represents H. Babayan.

A. Hakobyan is accused of Article 316, part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The accusation is based on the testimonies of 4 policemen.

The members of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders are deeply concerned about the continuous unlawful and ill-grounded detention of an Armenian human rights defender Arshaluys Hakobyan. Hakobyan, a member of Armenian Helsinki Association was arrested on 5 June, 2009 under the pretext of resisting the police during his arrest. The Network members believe that the real reason for Hakobyan’s detention is not only connected with his work as an election observer on May 31, 2009 election of the mayor of Yerevan, but, first of all, it is connected with his activities in the field of human rights protection.

M. Sukhudyan worked as a volunteer at Special School No. 11 of Nubarashen in the frameworks of a project “Best 10 Schools” implemented by UN. Now she is accused of Article 333, part 1, point 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (“False Denunciation”) which provides up to 5 years of imprisonment.

the examination of the circumstances of the death of Tigran Abgaryan, a private of Regiment No.1033
of the RA Police troops, who was shot on March 1, 2008, and died on April 11, 2008
