On March 13th 2011, at about 16:00, according to witnesses, a task force of the Secret Services stopped the car of Samson Khachatryan, an activist of the Armenian National Congress opposition party and previous Soviet and European boxing champion, at the Vazgen Sargsyan stadium. He was forced into their car and driven away in an unknown direction. He was detained at the police Central Investigation Department with Misak Hovakimyan and Poghos Trmzyan. According to the police press release March 14th, S. Khachatryan was arrested at 20:00. Misak Hovakimyan and Poghos Trmzyan were questioned as witnesses and then later released.
On March 14th, a criminal case was filed against S. Khachatryan, according to part 1 of Article 316 of the Criminal code of the Republic of Armenia: ‘Use of violence against a representative of the authorities’. The police stated that: "... On March 1st 2011, around 18:00, at the Mashtots-Koryun crossroads, Samson Khachatryan did not obey legal demands made by police officers. He showed resistance and struck out, causing bodily harm to one of the policemen. At the police department, Khachatryan announced it was possible that during the scuffle he hit someone but he could not accurately say whom he hit…”
