On October 12, 2009 the trial of 2 policemen of Yerevan Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Gegham Grigoryan and Andranik Manukyan continued at the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork Marash districts. They are accused of abusing 2 citizens near the Market of Mashtots Avenue on March 1, 2008. The judge to the case is G. Avetisyan, the prosecutor is A. Nadoyan and defense attorney is V. Gevorgyan. The defendants are accused of Article 309, part 2 of the Criminal Code of RA (Abuse of Power). The previous hearing was postponed because there was no defense attorney present there, as the defendants did not know that they should have a lawyer and asked the court 10 days in order to have the lawyer.
During this trial it was revealed that the lawyer was engaged in the case only an hour ago and filed a petition to the court in order to postpone the hearing as he needed time to get acquainted with the case materials. The judge answered that the defendants had 10 days for it. However, the judge satisfied the petition and the trial was postponed till October 23, at 16:00.
