The South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders unites 30 organizations in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and aims to facilitate creation of safer and enabling environment for human rights defenders in these countries.
The Network provides legal, physiological, medical support to Human Rights Defenders who are under threat, attack, detention, prosecution, or otherwise at immediate risk due to government or third party repression. In critical situations the Network also provides finances and other assistance for immediate evacuation and temporary residence of the defender in a safer country and/or helps the defender to seek asylum in that country.

In April 2010 Artak Zeynalyan, the assignees’ representative of 9 victims of the events of March 1, 2008 applied to Court with a claim to terminate the inactivity of the Special Investigation Service (SIS). Artak Zeynalyan claims that the SIS did not do anything to reveal the death circumstances of those 9 victims.
It became known on Wednesday morning that the member of the Monitoring Group of the Helsinki Association Arshaluys Hakobyan has passed away in Toronto (Canada) at the age of 38. Hakobyan was in Canada, asking for political asylum. He was forced to apply as a result of continuous harassment by the Armenian authorities
On April 13, 2010 the 24 years old Vahan Khalafyan was taken to the
Charentsavan police department as a suspect in robbery and died at
police department as a result of stab wounds.
