arshfree.jpgOn February 05, 2010 the trial of Arshaluys Hakobyan, monitor and human rights defender of Helsinki Association continued at the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash districts of Yerevan (defense attorney is G. Khachatryan, judge is G. Avetisyan, and the prosecutor is H. Babayan). The trial has been delayed for 3 month according the motion of the prosecution side reasoning it that the charge against A. Hakobyan is subject to change.

The Court Sentenced the Journalist to 7 Years of Imprisonment in Armenia

On 19 January, 2010 the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork Marash districts of Yerevan, presided by the Judge M. Martirosyan passed sentence on Nikol Pashinyan, editor-in-chief of “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily and convicted him to 7 years of imprisonment.

np1.jpgOn December 27, 2009 Vahagn Gevorgyan, Sergey Gasparyan, Tevos Matevosyan, Sahak Muradyan and Sargis Gevorgyan, activists of pre-election headquarter of Nikol Pashinyan ( he is a candidate for an election of an MP from No. 10 constituency of Yerevan)  were beaten at Vardanats 5a address. A group of 20-30 people with iron bars and brass-knuckles attacked and harshly beat the young activists causing physical injuries.

arshhak.jpgOn 06.11.2009 the Court of First Instance of Kentron and Nork Marash districts (Judge G. Khandanyan) examined the claimed filed by Arshaluys Hakobyan and his defense attorney Gayane Khachatryan on decision made on 29.07.2009 by K. Nazaryan, investigator of the Police Department of Kentron district. The decision was made to discontinue criminal prosecution against V. Badalyan and A. Sargsyan.

The Network considers the case to be fabricated with the intention of silencing critical voices and suppressing the dissent.

Political Prisoners’ day was first observed in 1974 in Soviet labor camps, honoring those who had been unjustly imprisoned and remembering those who had lost their lives to political repression. It is deplorable that today, thirty years later in independent Armenia, there are seventeen political prisoners, and there has been no justice for the victims of March 1, 2008.

vosthiv.jpgOn October 16, 2009 the trial of Gegham Harutyunyan and Hovhannes Ghukasyan, policemen of Yerevan Department of the Police of Armenia continued at the Court of the First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash districts (judge G. Poghsoyan, prosecutor H. Harutyunyan, lawyer A. Tovmasyan). The policemen were accused of Article 309, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia; they abused citizens during the events of March 1.
